If the weather is nice, set aside an hour to walk along the scenic Charles River on the well-traveled Esplanade. In the spring, the walking and biking paths are lined with blooming cherry trees and weeping willows. In the summertime you’ll see plenty of people fishing, lounging in hammocks, and enjoying the sunshine. In the fall, the Esplanade is populated with college students taking a break from their busy schedules to look out at the Cambridge skyline. This is the perfect escape from the noise of the city while also enjoying the breathtaking views that Boston has to offer.
The Mary Baker Eddy Museum, located in Back Bay, is home to the only Mapparium in the whole world. If you’re wondering what a Mapparium is, it’s a three-story glass globe made entirely of stained glass. It was built in 1935 and visitors can venture out on a platform to stand inside of the structure. Perhaps the most incredible feature of the Mapparium is how sound reverberates within the globe; making whispers from across the room sound like they are in your ear.
In the heart of Boston resides Newbury Street, where shoppers can browse Newbury Comics, try on a new pair of sneakers at Nike, or find some new headphones at Bang & Olufsen. Wear comfy shoes, since this walk will take you from the Boston Public Gardens all the way down to the edge of the Fenway neighborhood.
Hidden down a side street in Back Bay is one of the best ramen shops in all of Boston. Hokkaido Ramen Santouka is just a hole in the wall with communal seating, but the ramen is so good that there’s usually a line out the door by 6 p.m. We recommend coming early for dinner or late for lunch to avoid the wait. On their menu you‘ll find six types of ramen that can be paired with mouth-watering pork belly and soft-boiled eggs.
If ramen isn’t your thing, head over to the Prudential Building to have a meal at Top of the Hub. This award-winning restaurant hovers 52 stories above Boston and serves up delectable lobster rolls, steaks, handmade pasta, and more. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time!
Tucked away on Tremont Street is the Beehive, known for its great food, drinks, and live music every night. The atmosphere is laid-back and the music often plays into the early hours of the morning. Try the braised short ribs or spring salad and pair with a locally brewed beer for the perfect end to your day in Boston.
