Fall is fast-approaching, and that means one thing: kids are going back to school. Before you get back to packing lunches and helping with homework every day, take one last summer trip and head to Boston for an end-of-summer getaway. August is the perfect time to visit Beantown–college students have not yet moved back into their dorms, so the city is still relatively quiet and easy to get around.
If you’re in need of one last adventure before school starts, then hop on a C&J bus and travel into Boston! Tickets to South Station are only $11.99 from Newburyport and $12.99 from Portsmouth and Dover. C&J helps our riders save money and the headache of battling traffic to get into the city. So, what are you waiting for? Here are the top places to visit in Boston to get in a little bit more summer before back-to-school.
There’s nothing that says “summer” quite like a day spent at the ballpark with a Fenway Frank, a cold beer, and a World Series champion team! Check the schedules on the Red Sox website to help plan your trip. There are plenty of home games left this season and affordable tickets are not hard to find!
One of the best ways to see Boston without breaking a sweat is an old fashioned trolley tour! These are perfect for hot days so you don’t have to trek all over the city, and you can hop on and off at any of the stops. Your trolley ticket also gets you free admission to the Old State House and a discounts to the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum and more. Get your tickets ahead of time and plan to spend at least half the day traveling around Boston on a trolley.
Located in the middle of the picturesque Charles River Esplanade, the Hatch Shell offers tons of summertime events. We suggest winding down after a busy day with their Free Friday Flicks! The kids will love movies like How to Train Your Dragon, Captain Marvel, or Dumbo, all playing this August.
SoWa, South of Washington, is Boston’s arts and design district. Every Sunday during the summer you can stroll through open studios and galleries, check out great antiques and vintage clothing, and sip on a cold drink from one of the many food trucks and stalls parked around the neighborhood. We definitely recommend checking out their Dog Days of Summer event on August 18, where you can watch a dog costume contest and try a beer from Beer’d Brewery (who will donate $1 from every purchase to an animal charity)!
This gorgeous park in the middle of Boston’s Seaport District is totally worth the trip. Come to the Lawn on D during the day for Open Lawn, where kids and adults alike can swing on the iconic white swings, or visit on a weekend for live music, cornhole, drinks, and plenty of fun for all ages. Be sure to check their events schedule ahead of time, because they periodically close for private events during the summer.
If you’re ready to start planning your own trip into Boston before the summer is over, be sure to check out C&J’s bus schedules and buy your tickets! We make getting to Boston easy– all our buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi, cold water, power outlets, and comfortable reclining seats. Feel free to take a nap or catch up on work while you travel so you can enjoy every minute you spend in Boston!
