Have you made plans for Labor Day weekend yet? If you haven’t put anything in your calendar, then you should start planning for a long weekend in Boston! The city is full of fun Labor Day weekend events that you and your friends and family will love. Spend the day in a beautiful rooftop pool in the heart of Boston, or go on a scavenger hunt around the city! No matter how you decide to celebrate the end of summer, you’re sure to have a great time in Boston.
Getting into Boston for Labor Day Weekend is a breeze when you ride with C&J Bus Lines. Hop on one of our buses in Dover, Portsmouth, or Newburyport and ride directly to South Station! Tickets are affordable, which means you have more money to spend on a great weekend in the city. So, sit back, relax, and let us do the driving!
After getting off your C&J bus at South Station, you’ve probably worked up an appetite. Start the day strong with brunch at one of Boston’s best brunch spots! Backyard Betty’s serves up some unforgettable fried chicken and waffles, banana pancakes, and boozy cereal-flavored milkshakes. If that sounds a little too heavy, take the T to the South End and try Barcelona Wine Bar’s brunch tapas and fresh mixed salads. They offer a taste of Spain in the middle of Boston.
The Colonnade Hotel in the middle of Back Bay boasts one of the most beautiful rooftop pools in the Boston. Spend the day lounging next to the stunning blue pool, enjoy craft cocktails, and munch on some delicious appetizers and small plates. If you’d prefer to overlook Boston’s Theater District instead of Back Bay, head to the Rooftop@Revere to enjoy the heated pool, bar, and lounge. They’re even throwing a Labor Day Rooftop party with music! It’s the perfect way to soak up the last rays of summer.
If you’re looking to stay cool and the rooftop pools aren’t doing the trick, why not check out a museum? The Seaport’s Institute of Contemporary Art offers free admission all day on Labor Day, making it a totally affordable way to spend an afternoon in Boston. We love their current exhibit, Less is a Bore: Maximalist Art & Design. You’ll be mesmerized by the incredible patterns and colors on display. When you’re done, walk down the street to Committee for some Mediterranean dishes like falafel or artichoke moussaka.
If you love mysteries and adventure, sign up for a city-sized scavenger hunt! There are two different scavenger hunts available– one around Boston Harbor and another along the Freedom Trail. This is best done as a team and is the perfect activity for families or groups of friends. You can start whenever you want and move at your own pace, so budget at least three hours for your scavenger hunt.
Now in its 20th year, campfire. festival from Passim is a four-day music festival in Cambridge that celebrates Boston’s music scene. It’s a highly unique festival experience in an intimate setting. Grab food and drinks there and enjoy the mix of bluegrass, folk, and acoustic guitar music! If you’d prefer to sit at a table with food, drinks, and still enjoy live music, head down the block to Beat Brew Hall. They have live music every night and a menu stuffed with incredible food.
Close out summer with a bang: watch the fireworks from the Harbor Fireworks Cruise. The Adirondack III is a gorgeous 80-foot schooner that takes guests past the Bunker Hill Monument, USS Constitution, and provides some of the best views of the Boston Harbor fireworks show. Enjoy complimentary desserts during your excursion and feel free to ask the crew about any of the sites you pass—they’re very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions.
There are far more activities in Boston for Labor Day Weekend, but these are just a few of our favorites.
