SoHo, or South of Houston Street, is home to the largest collection of Cast Iron architecture in the world, more art galleries than we can count, and some of the best shopping in all of Manhattan. Bordered by Greenwich Village and Chinatown, it’s the perfect destination for art enthusiasts, sightseeing, and window shopping. Oh, and of course, great eats.
If you’re ready to plan your weekend getaway to SoHo with a friend or loved one, be sure to visit C&J’s website to buy your bus tickets to New York City. We make getting into Manhattan easy as pie—let us worry about the driving while you kick back and relax in our luxury seating! Enjoy free Wi-Fi, refreshments, snacks, and plenty of space to stretch out in your seat. It’s the most comfortable way to travel, and to top it off, we will drop you off at C&J’s terminal in Port Authority, so you don’t have to worry about navigating public transport to get into Manhattan.
Here are all of the highlights of SoHo:
This architectural style is exactly what it sounds like: building made with prefabricated cast iron. Cast iron style became very popular during the American Industrial Revolution. SoHo’s Cast Iron District is made up of about 500 buildings and is part of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Bring a camera and tour SoHo’s streets filled with an unbelievable collection of Cast Iron style buildings.
Some of us can spend all day peering in the windows of the exclusive boutiques tucked away in SoHo’s quiet streets: Chanel, Prada, Saint Laurent, and so many more. While most of these brands are out of our budget, it’s a great way to get inspired before you head to one of SoHo’s many high-quality thrift shops. What Goes Around Comes Around and A Second Chance specialize in high-end goods (but at much lower prices than new). If you love the thrill of searching for the best designer deal, SoHo is for you.
If shopping isn’t your thing, walk over to The Drawing Center on Wooster Street. The entire museum is entirely dedicated to drawing. It’s a much more approachable art form and perfect for anyone who might get bored in a traditional art museum. When you’re done, head to Eden Fine Art, which is brimming with bright, colorful art that celebrates the art history of the SoHo neighborhood.
Every corner you turn in SoHo, there’s yet another five-star restaurant inviting patrons in to dine. We love The Bombay Bread Bar, where you can snack on rosemary naan or share a cauliflower masala roast. The interior adds to the experience– Floyd Cardoz, one of Wes Anderson’s favorite movie set designers, conjured up this gorgeous dining setting. If you’re looking for a fancier restaurant (perhaps to celebrate an anniversary), head to La Mercerie Cafe. Try their lobster salad or grilled salmon and pair with a glass of French wine.
What weekend getaway is complete without treating yourself to something sweet? Balthazar Bakery is anything but an ordinary bakery: try a slice of their coconut cake, an apple galette, or a chocolate walnut cookie. We also love Ladurée and their large assortment of macarons. Have a salted caramel macaron and a cup of tea to wind down the day!
If we’ve convinced you to visit SoHo, then it’s time to plan out your trip. Ride with C&J so you can start relaxing the minute you get on the bus.
