Fall is upon us, but that doesn’t mean you have to start hibernating! There are plenty of great reasons to get out of the house this fall and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts. We recommend that you head to Boston for an end-of-summer adventure! What could be better than the back-to-school bustle of activity in the city? This fall, you can find us at any one of these events taking place around Boston (lookin’ at you, Harvard Square Cambridge Chocolate Tour).
Luckily, getting to and from Boston is a breeze with C&J Bus Lines. You can hop on one of our buses at our terminals in Dover, Portsmouth, and Newburyport to ride into the city in just over an hour. Not only is it fast, but it’s also completely relaxing—free Wi-Fi, reclining seats, outlets, and complimentary refreshments all help to make your trip much more enjoyable than driving. And did we mention trips to South Station start at only $11.99!
If you’re ready to travel into Boston with C&J this fall, you’ll want to start planning your trip. Here are a few suggestions.
Sometimes the best way to explore a city is by simply walking through its streets—and by visiting local bars. The Brews & Clues scavenger hunt will bring you and your team on a two-ish mile tour of Boston while you solve puzzles and riddles along the way. You’ll get to see much of the Freedom Trail as well as several much-loved local pubs. This is best with a team, and you can even bring up to 15 people! If you’re traveling to Boston with a large group of friends, we highly recommend you try out this scavenger hunt!
All summer long, Harvard University has brought a free concert series to the Harvard Common Space (situated right next to Harvard Square in Cambridge). The final show is September 27, where you can enjoy Fabiola Mendéz’s perfect guitar playing. We should warn you—you may be tempted to get up and dance to her Latin-jazz blend music.
While you’re there, be sure to pick up a bite to eat from one of the many food trucks that park along the Common Space. We especially love Roxy’s Grilled Cheese for their hot honey bacon melt and the hand-cut truffle fries. If you’d prefer something sweet, you can’t beat Zinneken’s Belgian waffles (imagine: a toasty warm waffle topped with sliced banana and Nutella).
Does our talk of Nutella have your mouth watering? Then you’ll absolutely want to take the Harvard Square Cambridge Chocolate Tour. It starts just a short distance from the Harvard Common Space and will take you on a mile-long walking tour. For $35, you’ll have all your chocolate needs satisfied as you stop to sample some of Cambridge’s best treats! The tour is great as a date or with friends and family.
If chocolate isn’t your thing, don’t worry. Off the Beaten Path Food Tours offers plenty of other food tours, including the Harvard Square Cambridge Food and History Tour. You’ll make six to seven stops to sample food along this tour, so bring your appetite!
Every year, the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center hosts the Chinatown Arts Festival. This free event is an excellent way to explore the neighborhood’s rich history and cultural roots. Listen to musical performances, try your hand at kite-making, learn about calligraphy, and watch dancers twirl around Chinatown’s streets! It’s an exciting way to spend an afternoon with your family in the city.
Now in its fourth year, Boston Public Market’s Harvest Party is a fantastic way to enjoy great food and even better company, while also supporting the community. Attendees can sample bites from the Boston Public Market vendors, try beer and cider from assorted pop-ups, listen (and dance) to live music, and participate in a silent auction. All proceeds from the event support the BPM’s Community Engagement Fund, which provides free educational programs to the local community.
